WHAT:

The average driver in the Las Cruces area loses $1,695 annually as a result of driving on roads that are deteriorated, congested, and that lack some desirable safety features, according to a new report from TRIP, a national transportation research nonprofit based in Washington, DC.

New Mexico legislators will join TRIP at a virtual news conference on Thursday to highlight the report’s findings. The report, “New Mexico Transportation by the Numbers: Meeting the State’s Need for Safe, Smooth and Efficient Mobility,” examines road and bridge conditions, congestion, economic development, highway safety, and transportation funding in the Albuquerque, Las Cruces and Santa Fe urban areas and statewide.

A link to a video containing TRIP spokesperson comments on the report’s findings for the Las Cruces area will also be posted on the TRIP website at 10:00 a.m. MST on March 4.
