WHAT:

The average driver in the Portland area loses $1,525 annually as a result of driving on roads that are deteriorated, congested, and that lack some desirable safety features. This is according to a new report from TRIP, a national transportation research nonprofit based in Washington, DC, which finds that while the state has invested nearly $7 billion since 2018 to preserve roads and bridges, improve safety and increase reliability, Maine continues to face significant transportation challenges and will require continued, sustained and predictable transportation funding.

Local speakers will join TRIP at a virtual news conference on Tuesday to highlight the report’s findings. The report, “Keeping Maine Mobile: Providing a modern, sustainable transportation system in the Pine Tree State,” examines road and bridge conditions, congestion, and highway safety statewide and in the Bangor, Lewiston-Auburn and Portland urban areas.
