WHAT:

Over the last decade, state and federal transportation funding increases have allowed Virginia to move forward on numerous projects and programs to improve the condition, reliability and safety of the commonwealth’s transportation network. Despite these funding increases, Virginia still faces challenges in improving and maintaining its transportation system to accommodate future growth, maintain the system, and sustain adequate investment.

This is according to a new report from TRIP, a national transportation research nonprofit based in Washington, DC. TRIP’s report, entitled Keeping Virginia Mobile: Providing a Modern, Sustainable Transportation System in the Old Dominion State, examines Virginia’s road and bridge conditions, congestion, traffic safety, economic development, and projects and programs completed or underway to improve the transportation system.  In addition to statewide data, the report includes regional breakdowns for the Hampton Roads, Northern Virginia, Richmond and Roanoke areas.

Local speakers will join TRIP at a virtual news conference on Thursday to highlight the report’s findings. A link to a video containing TRIP spokesperson comments on the report’s findings will also be posted on the TRIP website at 10:00 a.m. EDT on September 28.
