Report available on TRIP website at 10:00 a.m. ET.
WHAT:
While additional state and federal transportation funding is allowing West Virginia to make needed improvements to its network of roads and bridges, rising inflation is eroding purchasing power, making additional funding necessary to complete needed projects. This is according to a new report from TRIP, a national transportation research nonprofit based in Washington, DC, that looks at the condition, efficiency and funding needs of West Virginia’s system of roads, highways and bridges. In addition to statewide data, the report includes regional road and bridge condition, congestion and safety data for the Beckley, Charleston, Huntington, Morgantown, Parkesburg, Weirton-Steubenville and Wheeling urban areas.
Local speakers will join TRIP at a virtual news conference on Tuesday to highlight the report’s findings. The report, “Keeping West Virginia Moving Forward: Progress and Challenges in Achieving a 21st Century Transportation System,” examines road and bridge conditions, congestion and reliability, economic development, highway safety, vehicle travel trends, and the impact of recent transportation funding increases at the federal level and in the state.
