The average driver in the Rochester area loses $1,747 annually as a result of driving on roads that are deteriorated, congested, and that lack some desirable safety features, according to a new report from TRIP, a national transportation research nonprofit based in Washington, DC.

Local speakers will join TRIP at a virtual news conference on Wednesday to highlight the report’s findings. The report, “New York Transportation by the Numbers: Meeting the State’s Need for Safe, Smooth and Efficient Mobility,” examines road and bridge conditions, congestion, economic development, highway safety, the impact of COVID-19 on vehicle travel trends and transportation funding in the Albany-Schenectady-Troy, Binghamton, Buffalo-Niagara Falls, New York-Newark-Jersey City, Poughkeepsie-Newburgh-Middletown, Rochester, Syracuse and Utica urban areas and statewide.

A link to a video containing TRIP spokesperson comments on the report’s findings for the Rochester area will also be posted on the TRIP website at 10:00 a.m. EST on January 12.
