WHAT:

Texas voters approved Proposition 1 in 2014 and Proposition 7 in 2015, generating nearly $40 billion in additional revenue to Texas’ State Highway Fund and leading to safer, smoother, more efficient travel across the state. A new report by TRIP examines the impact of additional transportation funding and finds that improvements funded by Propositions 1 and 7 have saved Texans a total of $18.1 billion per year – $2,301 per Austin household – and saved 3,565 lives because of traffic safety improvements. TRIP is a national transportation research nonprofit based in Washington, DC.

Local speakers will join TRIP at a virtual news conference on Thursday to highlight the findings of the report, entitled Saving Texans’ Lives, Time and Money: The Impact of Increased Transportation Funding in Providing Texas with a Smoother, Safer, More Reliable Transportation System. In addition to statewide data, the report includes pavement condition data, congestion levels and cost savings breakdowns for households in the Austin, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston and San Antonio urban areas.
