WHAT:

The average driver in the Fayetteville-Springdale-Rogers area loses $1,264 annually as a result of driving on roads that are deteriorated, congested, and that lack some desirable safety features, according to a new report from TRIP, a national transportation research nonprofit based in Washington, DC.

Local speakers will join TRIP at a virtual news conference on Wednesday to highlight the report’s findings. The report, “Arkansas Transportation by the Numbers: Meeting the State’s Need for Safe, Smooth and Efficient Mobility,” examines road and bridge conditions, congestion, economic development, highway safety, and transportation funding in the Fayetteville-Springdale-Rogers, Fort Smith, Hot Springs, Jonesboro, Little Rock-North Little Rock-Conway, Pine Bluff and West Memphis urban areas and statewide.

In addition to the virtual news conference, Nelson Peacock, president and CEO of the Northwest Arkansas Council, will be available locally for interviews on September 16. See contact information below to arrange an interview.  A link to a video containing TRIP spokesperson comments on the report’s findings for the Northwest Arkansas area will also be posted on the TRIP website at 10:00 a.m. CDT on September 16.
