This report examines the condition, use, safety and funding of Connecticut’s roads, highways and bridges, and the state’s future mobility needs. Sources of information for this report include the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS), the U.S. Census Bureau, the Texas Transportation Institute (TTI), the American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA), the Connecticut Department of Transportation, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

In addition to statewide data, the TRIP report includes regional data for the Bridgeport-Stamford, Hartford and New Haven regions. An urban area is defined as a region’s municipalities and surrounding suburbs for pavement condition and congestion data; bridge and traffic fatality data include a region’s major counties.
